Dyer Launches 2025 Apprenticeship Programme

10th February 2025

Dyer Engineering, a trusted partner to industry-leading OEMs is proud to announce the launch of its 2025 apprenticeship programme. Based in County Durham, Dyer has been solving complex engineering challenges since 1977, leveraging its 47 years of expertise in machining and fabrications to drive advancements in the global engineering industry.

Our 2025 apprenticeship intake is now open, offering opportunities in Welding and Machining—high-demand fields critical to the future of engineering. These apprenticeships provide hands-on experience, equipping individuals with the technical expertise required to thrive in the industry.

Dyer currently supports 15 apprentices and remains committed to developing future talent, ensuring that at least 10% of our workforce consists of apprentices. In June 2024, we enhanced our programme to further strengthen training and development. This includes dedicated mentorship, an internal training framework, and alignment with the formal academic curriculum at New College Durham.

Our four year apprenticeship programme, delivered in partnership with New College Durham, provides a balance of academic learning and real-world industry experience. Apprentices rotate across departments, gaining exposure to:

·       Production – Understanding key manufacturing processes

·       Quality Control – Learning how to maintain industry leading standards

·       Engineering Solutions – Developing problem solving skills in real world applications

We’ve also invested in mentorship training for our experienced professionals, ensuring apprentices receive high-quality guidance that reflects modern workplace thinking and best practices.

Maxine Henry, Group HR Manager at Dyer Engineering, said:

“Investing in local talent is crucial for the future of both our business and the wider engineering industry. Our apprenticeship programme is designed to equip the next generation of engineers with the skills and experience needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving sector. By developing homegrown talent, we’re strengthening our own workforce and also contributing to the growth of the North East’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities. With exciting advancements in industry, there’s never been a better time to start a career in engineering—and we’re proud to support apprentices on that journey.”
